MANILA — Dua orang maut dan 15 lagi cedera, beberapa parah, selepas sebuah jeepney penumpang bertembung dengan lori pembancuh simen di wilayah Sorsogon, tenggara Manila, kata polis pada Isnin.
Polis berkata, kemalangan itu berlaku kira-kira jam 10:30 pagi waktu tempatan pada Ahad selepas salah satu tayar hadapan jeepney itu pecah, menyebabkan ia terbabas ke laluan bertentangan dan bertembung dengan lori dari arah hadapan.
Penumpang tercampak keluar dari jeepney ke jalan raya akibat impak perlanggaran, tambah polis.
Polis menahan pemandu lori terbabit, dan siasatan sedang dijalankan.
Jeepney ialah mod pengangkutan utama untuk berjuta-juta rakyat Filipina di seluruh kepulauan, terutama di luar bandar.

2 dead, 15 injured in Philippine road accident
MANILA — Two people have been killed and 15 others injured, some critically, after a passenger jeepney collided with a cement mixer truck in Sorsogon province, southeast of Manila, police said Monday.
Police said the accident happened around 10:30 a.m. local time on Sunday after one of the jeepney’s front tires burst, causing it to swerve to the opposite lane and collide head-on with the oncoming truck.
The passengers were tossed out of the jeepney onto the road due to the impact of the collision, added the police.
Police detained the truck driver, and an investigation is underway.
Jeepneys are the primary mode of transport for millions of Filipinos across the archipelago, especially in the countryside.
