CHARIKAR, Afghanistan — Police have captured a three-member gang of abductors in eastern Afghanistan’s Parwan province, spokesman for provincial police reported on Tuesday.

The abductors were involved in kidnapping and torturing Afghans abroad the country and demanded money from their families, but were arrested by police personnel when they returned to Afghanistan, said Fazal Rahim Maskenyar, spokesman for the provincial police.

Recently, the arrested gang kidnapped a child in the national capital Kabul and demanded 30,000 U.S. dollars in ransom for his release, Maskeyar added.

The Afghan caretaker government has strengthened measures to crack down on any form of crime in the war-ravaged Asian country.
