MANILA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — Three people, including a five-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, were killed, and 15 others were injured in two separate road accidents in the provinces of Iloilo and Capiz in the central Philippines on Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said a passenger jeepney carrying around 20 people fell into a ditch while traveling a slippery road in Leon town around 6 a.m. local time. After tipping over, the vehicle landed on its side at the bottom of the ditch.

Initial investigation showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle after its brake malfunctioned.

In Capiz province, police said a female street sweeper was killed when a ten-wheel cargo truck plowed into at least 27 vehicles on Tuesday mid-morning.

Police said the truck’s brake failed as it approached an intersection in Ivisan town.

Police took into custody the drivers of the jeepney and the truck.
